FOX HILL is an Historic home located in The Catskill Mountains of New York State. Built in the mid 19th Century, it serves primarily as the country home of NYC-based artist Yolande Milan Batteau, her tiny dog Misaki, and a rotating band of beloved artist friends and family.
Formerly known as the Wishing Well Inn, Fox Hill served as a destination for artists and writers from the late 1800’s well into the 1940’s. In the 1920s, Gabriel Garcia Lorca lived and wrote poetry here during his New York sojourn. In the early 2000’s, Fox Hill was the birthplace of now-renowned design and furniture atelier BDDW. Founder Tyler Hays built his business and workshop here, before relocating downstate to New York City. A good friend of Tyler’s, Yolande purchased the property from him around 2017 and has been here ever since.
Fox Hill is a compound composed of 3 structures: the Main House, the Clay House, and the Barn. The house has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, media room, living room with a wood-burning stove, and dining area, all within the Main House. The property sits on 1.5 acres and is surrounded by meadow grass, staghorn sumac trees, wildflowers and a beautiful garden. A small brook runs along the north side of the main house. 5 minutes from charming downtown Shandaken and 10 minutes from Phoenicia, Fox Hill boasts all the tranquility and privacy of an upstate retreat without sacrificing proximity to civilization. Reliable Wifi and cable, central heating and air conditioning throughout. There is a washer and dryer available for guest use. We get the occasional bear and frequent chipmunks.
We welcome visitors, friends and family for short and long term rentals. Please make yourself at home.
